Feast of Firstfruits
בִּכּוּרִים
Bikkurim — The Day of Resurrection
The Temple Ritual
Firstfruits (בִּכּוּרִים - Bikkurim) was celebrated during the barley harvest. On this day, the high priest would take a sheaf (עֹמֶר - omer) of the first ripened barley and wave it before Yahweh as an offering.
“Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest. He shall wave the sheaf before Yahweh, to be accepted on your behalf.”
— Leviticus 23:10-11
Yeshua's Resurrection: The Ultimate Firstfruit
On the exact day that the high priest waved the barley sheaf in the Temple, Yeshua rose from the dead. He is called “the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:20).
Just as the firstfruits offering was a guarantee that the full harvest was coming, Yeshua's resurrection is the guarantee that all who belong to Him will also be raised. He is the first—and we will follow.
“But now Messiah is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.”
— 1 Corinthians 15:20-21
Prophetic Fulfillment
The timing of Yeshua's resurrection on Firstfruits is not coincidental—it is prophetic perfection. Consider the sequence:
Day 1: Passover
Yeshua crucified as the Lamb of Elohim
Days 2-3: Unleavened Bread
Yeshua in the tomb, sinless and pure
Day 4: Firstfruits
Yeshua rises, the firstfruits of the resurrection
Hope of Resurrection
Firstfruits is a celebration of victory over death. Because Yeshua rose, we have assurance that death is not the end. Believers are called “firstfruits” (James 1:18, Revelation 14:4)—a people set apart for Yahweh, destined for resurrection life.
This feast reminds us that our hope is not merely spiritual—it is physical. Just as Yeshua's body was raised and transformed, so will ours be. The grave has no power over those who belong to Him.
